BILLINGS – Local artists are gearing up for the 20th season of ArtWalk Billings, which kicks off Friday evening at 5 p.m.

At Susan Kennedy Sommerfeld’s downtown stained glass studio, a vast, intricate piece takes up an entire wall of the studio. Called the “Tree of Knowledge,” the piece is a tribute to her mother, Alice M. Kennedy. It was Alice who first introduced Susan to stained glass.

The window will be installed in the library at the University of Montana Western in Dillon. Alice studied in Dillon, taught there, and was involved with children’s theater programs in the community. The window is being donated to the library by Susan’s father, Richard Kennedy and family.

Kennedy’s Stained Glass Studio, located at 2923 2nd Ave North, is one of the 25 locations on Friday’s ArtWalk. For a map of all ArtWalk locations, visit artwalkbillings.com.
